Hey, everyone! Lately, I have been thinking a lot about simplicity and trying to live a life that is free from “clutter” or “excess”. When I think about the times in my life that I would view as fulfilling, I never really remember what I had in terms of possessions, what I remember most about those times are the people that were with me, or what I was doing and how it made me feel. I think about that and I wonder where I got it wrong for most of my life. I have been trying to fill my life with things and material possessions in order to fill this sort of void that I feel but that never seems to cut it. I was reminded of this recently while at my friend’s bachelor party, while one of the guys there shared about how he has really tried to be intentional about living simply and getting rid of the stuff he doesn’t really use every day. I thought to myself “Hey, that might be a good idea!” When I continued to think about it I thought about the passage in Luke chapter 9 where Jesus sends out His disciples and tells them not to take anything for their journey. I realize that this has more to do with the fact that God provided everything that they needed, but at the same time, Jesus was telling them that they didn’t need anything fancy or even basic things in order to serve Him. Jesus lived a simple life and He wanted them to do the same. In preparation for GlobeTREK I have decided to only take one piece of carry-on luggage for the entire trip. I would really like to see what living in simplicity is all about, and I think that this is an amazing opportunity to do that! Unfortunately, this means less room for souvenirs, so I guess postcards will have to suffice! I love to hear from you guys, so if you have a comment please feel free to leave it below!
In GlobeTREK news, it is getting so close! We are about 6 weeks out and I am getting extremely excited! However, funds are not really coming in which is a little bit nerve-racking. I am about 1/4 of the way to my goal, so if you feel like you would like to partner with me in this area of ministry then please do so! You can contact me for donation info or you can donate through the Donations page on my blog site, and through the Prairie College Giving page. And we always appreciate people who will stand with us in prayer as we take part in this incredible journey! Thank you all for reading!
Cheers,
Caleb
