Simplicity.

Hey, everyone! Lately, I have been thinking a lot about simplicity and trying to live a life that is free from “clutter” or “excess”. When I think about the times in my life that I would view as fulfilling, I never really remember what  I had in terms of possessions, what I remember most about those times are the people that were with me, or what I was doing and how it made me feel. I think about that and I wonder where I got it wrong for most of my life. I have been trying to fill my life with things and material possessions in order to fill this sort of void that I feel but that never seems to cut it. I was reminded of this recently while at my friend’s bachelor party, while one of the guys there shared about how he has really tried to be intentional about living simply and getting rid of the stuff he doesn’t really use every day. I thought to myself “Hey, that might be a good idea!” When I continued to think about it I thought about the passage in Luke chapter 9 where Jesus sends out His disciples and tells them not to take anything for their journey. I realize that this has more to do with the fact that God provided everything that they needed, but at the same time, Jesus was telling them that they didn’t need anything fancy or even basic things in order to serve Him. Jesus lived a simple life and He wanted them to do the same. In preparation for GlobeTREK I have decided to only take one piece of carry-on luggage for the entire trip. I would really like to see what living in simplicity is all about, and I think that this is an amazing opportunity to do that! Unfortunately, this means less room for souvenirs, so I guess postcards will have to suffice! I love to hear from you guys, so if you have a comment please feel free to leave it below!

In GlobeTREK news, it is getting so close! We are about 6 weeks out and I am getting extremely excited! However, funds are not really coming in which is a little bit nerve-racking. I am about 1/4 of the way to my goal, so if you feel like you would like to partner with me in this area of ministry then please do so! You can contact me for donation info or you can donate through the Donations page on my blog site, and through the Prairie College Giving page. And we always appreciate people who will stand with us in prayer as we take part in this incredible journey! Thank you all for reading!

Cheers,

Caleb

Provisions

Hello, friends!

I have not posted in quite a while and so much has been happening! So, I will start the update right away. Since my last post I have found a full-time job that I am able to work along with two other part-time jobs! God is so good at providing! This whole experience so far has been very humbling, and seeing the ways that God has provided for me not only financially but also in my walk with Him and with others has been overwhelmingly amazing. On top of all this, I have been approved for my internship! SO everything is falling together pretty well. The team and I are just in the process of applying for our different visas for the countries we will be visiting in September. I am so thankful for the prayers of all those people joining with me in this endeavor! If you would like some more info about Globetrek and what it is you can leave a comment below, I’d love to interact with you guys! Also, as always you can donate to our team through this link which will take you to the donation page with all the information you will need, or you can go to the Donations page on this blog! As another way of supporting our team, you can purchase a pretty cool Globetrek headband for $10! They are a steal of a deal in my opinion! Thank you all again for the support you have already given through prayer and finances, this trip would not be possible without it!

Helping Hands

As many of you probably know Fort McMurray has been recently devasted by a huge wildfire. It has been hard to watch as a whole city is damaged and put in danger by this fire, and watching the people who have been evacuated from their homes has been heartbreaking, to say the least. What makes this especially difficult to watch is the fact that I used to call Fort McMurray my home. I have watched some of the places that I hold dear to my heart, burn to the ground, and I have had to watch some of my friends be forced to leave their homes and all their possessions behind. But what I have found hope in during this horrible time is the fact that all (most) people care about is helping those people get back to their homes and piece their lives back together. This has given me hope for my friends who have been devastated by this disaster and has given me the desire to help in any way that I can. It’s kind of interesting to witness such a turn around in human behaviour. Usually, people are more concerned with themselves than with the needs of others, however, when disaster strikes the needs of others seem to become our own needs and are at the top of our priority list. So I have a few questions to ask! First off, Why do you think disaster inspires people to care about others so much? And secondly, how can we keep this spirit of caring for others alive every day?

P.S. Just to update you guys on GlobeTREK preparations, I am still looking for a full-time job but I am going to be working at a part time job starting next week. My internship application was just sent out today which is exciting! If you guys could continue to pray for funding and for the application process to go smoothly that would be great! Cheers!

School’s Out!

School has just recently ended! *begins to clap hands* To update you guys, our GlobeTREK team spent the last few days at school doing some intense prep work for our trip. It was a lot to take in, but, at the same time, it was super exciting to really begin talking about the actual trip and what we will be experiencing while we are out there travelling! We also received prayer cards for our individual team members so, if you would like one of these cards just let me know. My hope is to go to Kolkata, India for the six-month internship portion of the trip. While I am there I hope to work with a youth ministry that is supported by YWAM. However, it has not been confirmed yet which has been hard as all the other people on my team have confirmed internship placements. Now that school is done I begin the search for a summer job, which, is exciting and also daunting in our current economy. But, I remain somewhat optimistic and hopeful for whatever may come my way!

If you would like more information on GlobeTREK, or what I hope to be doing on the trip please contact me! I would love to share this with as many of my friends as possible and hopefully have your support as I prepare for and embark on this pretty amazing opportunity! Feel free to share this blog with your friends as well! And if you have any tips or tricks, for travelling or fundraising I would love to hear about them in the comment section below! Thanks for reading, God bless!
